ISTO Europe Forum 2026 - Registration is now open!.

We are pleased to announce that registration for the ISTO Europe Forum 2026 is now open! The event will take place on 25, 26 and 27 March 2026 at the CIARUS Centre (Ethic Etapes network) in Strasbourg, France.

The ISTO Europe Forum 2026 is built around the theme ‘Towards Tomorrow’s Tourism: A Human-Centered and Economically Responsible Tourism’. It will emphasise the need to rethink the role of tourism in order to contribute to a fairer and more inclusive society, by strengthening social and economic justice and anticipating the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.

In a context where tourism for all still faces many obstacles, the Forum takes a forward-looking perspective and invites reflection on how inclusive access to holidays can once again become a priority and a driving force for the tourism industry of tomorrow.

Three days of discussion and co-creation to define the future of tourism

The Forum will bring together tourism stakeholders from across Europe and beyond, including public and private operators from the profit and non-profit tourism sectors, researchers and industry experts, for a comprehensive programme of plenary sessions, panel discussions and meetings between ISTO members and external stakeholders.

A key moment will be dedicated to exchanges between the Africa, Americas and Europe sections, in order to continue developing effective and sustainable inter-section collaboration.

Solidarity Finance, Philanthropy and Responsible Economic Development Models

This panel discussion will explore alternative financial levers to support the development of social and solidarity-based tourism in Europe. Against a backdrop of declining public funding and changing economic models, solidarity finance, philanthropy and disinterested finance are opening up new prospects for guaranteeing the right to holidays for all.

This panel discussion will address the essential role of digital accessibility in ensuring truly inclusive tourism. This panel discussion will explore how mobility and travel experiences contribute to young people’s personal development, cultural openness and skills acquisition across Europe. Living in the destination: citizen participation, living culture and community tourism in Europe
This panel discussion explores innovative forms of citizen participation in tourism development in Europe. Faced with overtourism, gentrification and a loss of meaning for local communities, positive initiatives led by residents' collectives, associations and cooperatives are reinventing the conditions for a fairer, more creative form of tourism rooted in the living culture of the places they visit.

The Forum will also welcome several renowned speakers during plenary sessions:

  • Lise Bourdeau-Lepage (Jean Moulin University Lyon), geographer and specialist in urban studies, will lead the closing session, which will explore issues of well-being in cities, territorial attractiveness and socio-spatial inequalities.
  • A plenary session will be dedicated to the European Commission's perspectives on strategies and initiatives for sustainable and inclusive tourism.
  • Other experts will speak on key topics such as inclusion, solidarity finance and local development.

These three days in Strasbourg will be an opportunity to exchange ideas, share your thoughts and co-create concrete solutions for a fairer, more inclusive and humanistic form of tourism.
