This year, 28 events were organised around the world. This figure illustrates the commitment of our members and partners to advancing the principles of socially sustainable tourism.
This Week brought together tourism stakeholders from around the world. The initiatives came from countries such as Belgium, Burkina Faso, Canada, Costa Rica, Spain, France, Mali, Mexico and Senegal, all committed to building a fair and sustainable tourism for all.
The richness of this edition was reflected in the variety of formats proposed: conferences and webinars, participatory workshops, publications, field visits, award ceremonies and communication campaigns. The formats were varied, but always driven by a common desire to promote tourism that serves everyone.
Social Sustainability of Tourism, as defined in the Brussels Addendum (2023), is ‘about stakeholders taking into account the social aspects of tourism for the people living in the places visited, the workers in the sector and the visitors themselves, with a view to ensuring their long-term wellbeing’.
The theme of this 6th edition, ‘Social Sustainability of Tourism’, therefore highlighted initiatives focused on the well-being of those involved in tourism: residents, workers in the tourism sector and visitors.
ISTO would like to warmly thank all the participating organisations, as well as every professional and individual who contributed to making this Week a time for exchange, sharing and inspiration. This mobilisation proves once again that the strength of ISTO’s network lies in the collective commitment of its members around the world, and that tourism can – and must – be a lever for social transformation.
Of course, we look forward to meeting again in June 2026 to celebrate together the 7th edition of the International Week of Fair and Sustainable Tourism for All.
